Truffle oil is in fact a synthetic oil obtained from chemicals and mixed with olive oil. Some selected companies produce authentic truffle oils extracted from truffles. Let me dispel the myth that most truffle oil products on the market are not made from truffles. Truffle oil is an oil that comes directly from the truffle itself. The oil has nothing at all to do with truffles.

There are a few other types of truffle. Tuber aestivum is also known as burgundy or black summer truffle. It occurs in many parts of Europe. White vs Black Truffle Oil

There are two main types of truffles. Black truffles are pitch black in colour. It is also called the Perigord truffle because it is grown in the Périgord region of France. Its biological name is Tuber melanosporum. 

White truffles come from many parts of Italy and are very common in exotic Italian cuisine. They have pale flesh with a glossy white surface that looks like marble. It is white with patches of other colors. The biological name of the white truffle is Tuber magnatum. They can weigh up to a pound, with the largest weighing several pounds.

Truffle oil costs about $90 an ounce. Legally obtained black truffles are called black truffle oil and white truffles are called white truffle oil. In 2009, the price of a white tuff stone was $14,000. This price makes truffles one of the most expensive foods in the world. The more difficult it becomes to find the truffle, the more expensive the truffle oil becomes.

Light oil is obtained from white truffles and the dark oil from black truffles. From a nutritional point of view, truffle oil derives more from its base oil than extra virgin olive oil. Real truffle oil comes from the truffle itself.

It is used in fruit juices to make them taste and smell like the original fruit. Black truffle oil is produced by adding bismethyldithio-methane. As a result, it has none of the other nutrient-rich properties of base oils. It also contains adverse health effects caused by the added chemicals.

In order to be able to recognize the difference in taste and smell, one has to have a lot of experience with truffles and cooking with them. If you are planning to buy truffle oil for your restaurant it is better to consult with renowned chefs and brands that sell authentic truffle oils.

If you can get your hands on natural truffle oil, it contains properties that offer health benefits without the excess olive oil. If you have artificial truffle oil, use it in many truffle oil recipes to create flavor without truffles.

Many chefs agree that synthetic truffle oil is a waste of money. On the other hand, real truffle oil is rich enough to be worth it.

Is Truffle Oil Healthy?

Some research has been carried out on the nutritional facts of truffles. Truffles vary greatly in nutritional content between different types of truffles. Here are some of the most striking outcomes of the studies. 

Truffle oil contains both saturated and unsaturated fats. The fat content of truffle oil is between 3% and 7%, which is on the low side. The protein content is about 20%. Fiber does not end up in truffle oil.

Truffles are also a great source of most of the minerals a person needs such as copper, magnesium, manganese, zinc, sodium, potassium and calcium. They also contain a certain amount of aluminium.
  • Truffles are also considered to be anti-tumour and have strong antibacterial properties. They control immune function to reach the required level. This prevents the side effects of an overactive immune system and strengthens a weak immune system.
